Frequently Asked Questions
Wind Mitigation Inspections

What is a wind mitigation survey and why do I need it?
A wind mitigation survey is a detailed inspection that documents existing wind resistant construction features on your home. Features inspected include:
roof type and construction
window coverings
garage door, entry doors
connections from roof to wall to foundation
Insurance companies are required by law to give discounts if the home has certain features. The insurance companies will require
documentation from a person with state training in building codes such as a certified insurance inspector.
What other features will result in a discount?
That varies depending upon each individual insurance company. Click on the "calculate your savings" button on the right to get an idea
of what kind of discounts you may qualify for.
How do I know if my insurance company will give discounts?
Insurance companies are required by law to give discounts when your home has certain features that protect it against
wind damage.
Why can't I just tell them what features my home has?
The average homeowner is not qualified to make construction, and building code
compliance determinations and either is the average insurance agent. Insurance companies depend on trained experts
such as a certified insurance inspector like myself.
When do I get the form for insurance discounts or credits?
At the conclusion of your inspection, I will submit the inspection to our in house auditing service. They will verify accuracy to
ensure you get 100% of the discounts you are entitled to. Within 2 business days you will receive your form electronically and your
insurance agent will also receive a copy if you have authorized them to. If not, you may provide them with a copy of your form.
Is there anything I can do to increase my discounts?
A windstorm mitigation inspection will disclose features your home does not have at the time of inspection but which could be added to increase your discounts. For example, adding
shutters, or hurricane resistant glass.
How do I know you are qualified?
As a state certified insurance inspector, I work with all insurance companies in Florida. I am listed on the My Safe Florida Home
website as an authorized inspector for wind mitigation surveys. Beware of inspectors who are not listed or cannot prove they are certified to
perform this service for you. Your insurance company will refuse the report and you will be required to pay someone who
does have the proper training to certify your home.
Do I need to be present for the inspection?
No, it is not necessary that you be present for the inspection, but we do recommend that you are present. This is an opportunity to learn
how you can make your home safer. We do require someone over the age of 18 be present and attic access is required for the
inspector to verify roofing features.

Thank you for saving me $231.00 on my insurance. I know everything right now is so expensive and the economy is not good
but at least there is still something that can save home owners some money. I told my friends and family regarding this
inspection but most are scared to spend $150.00. Keep up spreading the news.

This inspection saved me $341.00 a year. I didn’t know that I had some of the features that were eligible for discounts.
I wish I knew this earlier but no one told me so I’m glad I had it done. Thanks Mike for the service you provided and
your professionalism.

I was skeptical about this inspection at first and to spend $150.00 but my insurance agent recommended it. I’m so happy
I did it since my home owner insurance decrease $412.00 per year. I was told this is good for 5 years so this was a very
good investment and will save me $2,060.00 in 5 years.
